Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for Band 5 Staff Nurses within Critical Care at the University Hospital of Wales.
UHW is the home to the only Major Trauma Centre in Wales and the tertiary centre for several specialties. We are currently recruiting staff nurses as part of our expansion plan for 2023 to increase service provision for the residents of Cardiff and Wales for tertiary services.
Main duties of the job
Critical Care is a 35, increasing to 38 bedded adult Major trauma & tertiary referral unit accepting patients from all over Wales. Main specialities include general medicine & surgery, neurology & neurosurgery, trauma & orthopaedics, advanced respiratory support and renal medicine. Ten sisters/charge nurses will support your transition along with a dedicated practice education team lead by two band 7 practice educators and 5 clinical development nurses.
We have an educational pathway to support your development. This is delivered by a proactive educational team and supported by the nationally recognised ICU Step Competencies Programme.
Quality, Safety and Innovation are at the heart of our service, with a dedicated lead nurse to ensure that the best evidenced based practice is provided for all patients. All staff are actively encouraged to participate within these service improvement groups.
We have a highly regarded and internationally recognised research programme .
In recognition of the specialist nature of this area we provide new nurses a six week supernumerary period with clear competencies supported by experienced staff.
If successful in obtaining a staff nurse position in Adult Critical Care there is the future opportunity to rotate to other high care areas within the directorate.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
