Job summary

We are looking to recruit enthusiastic qualified nurses to join our supportive and experienced Neonatal Nursing team who deliver high quality, kind and compassionate care.

The newly refurbished Neonatal Intensive Care Unit within the Children's Hospital for Wales admits approximately 600 babies per year. In addition to being a level three NICU we are the only neonatal surgical unit in Wales. We also provide care for babies from across Wales who require specialist tertiary care and those who receive antenatal care within the foetal medicine unit.

The unit provides a wealth of opportunities for ongoing development and experience within a supportive and friendly team. Nurses work in a variety of roles within the unit. We have a neonatal outreach team, a dedicated neonatal practice education team and an established team of advanced neonatal nurse practitioners. We are integrating FICare into our working practices to ensure we work collaboratively with the families on the unit.

Main duties of the job

We are currently a 32 cot unit offering both medical and surgical care to a wide range of infants from all over South Wales. We care for infants requiring tertiary care for respiratory, neurological and surgical conditions. The unit currently comprises of 8 Intensive Care, 12 High Dependency and 12 Special Care Cots. We also support our 15 bedded Transitional Care Unit. Staff will have the opportunity in all areas.

All newly qualified staff will have an 8 week supernumerary period which will include a 2 week Acute Child Health induction program alongwith neonatal specific study days. You will be enrolled onto the UHB's nurse foundation program, this includes medicine management, wound care, catheterization and much more. All staff have the opportunity to rotate throughout Acute Child Health if they wish. Training opportunities to become Qualified in Speciality (QIS) is provided for all band 5 staff with enrolment on to the 2 neonatal care modules run in partnership with University of South Wales.
