Job summary
The post holder is responsible for the delivery of basic practice nursing services care to the practice population.
Supported by senior nurses within the practice, they will deliver care within the boundaries of their role, focusing upon supporting patients to be healthy, monitoring of long-term conditions, health prevention and screening activities.
They will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures, and providing nurse leadership as required.
Main duties of the job
As part of the primary care business unit, the PCIC Academy is promoting an opportunity to support nurses who wish to transition into General Practice.
The General Practice Nurse (GPN) trainee scheme provides an opportunity for registered nurses to gain the skills required for employment within a GP practice in the Cardiff and Vale area for a period of 9 months utilising a traditional 'Host' model and a local 'Host and Buddy' model.
The nurse will be supported to learn and develop the skills necessary for a career in General Practice. The post is funded by the CAV, HEIW and the General Practice/s providing the placement.
At the end of the 9 month period, the nurse will be able to fulfil the core duties and responsibilities of a General Practice Nurse through observational learning, study days, e-learning, in-house training, completion of a competency portfolio and observation sessions within clinical fields pertinent to the role.
Cardiff and Vale UHB will support nurses to seek employment at the end of the scheme.
During the placement, terms and conditions of the Health Board will apply.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
This post is fixed term for 9 months due to programme duration.
