Job summary

JOB PURPOSE

The Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) Apprenticeship is a training role designed to provide apprentices with a set of competencies, work experience and a level 2 apprenticeship qualification that will lead to employment as a HCSW within the health care sector. A formal development programme will be provided which will help the apprentice to develop the fundamental skills & some supportive skills detailed in the HCSW Skills and Career Framework for Wales.

JOB SUMMARY

The HCSW apprentice will provide support to registered practitioners and HCSW and will work under the supervision of the Registered Practitioner. They will be required to:

o Undertake HCSW duties within the remit of the UHB's HCSW apprentice scope of practice, as delegated by the Registered Practitioner.

o Assist the registered practitioner and HCSW in the provision of patient care under the guidance and supervision of the registered practitioner.

o Engage with all training and development activities included in the apprenticeship programme

Please note if you are already degree qualified you will be ineligible to apply due to Welsh Government funding criteria on the level 2 qualification.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

This post is fixed term for 18 months due to - meet the needs of the service

Main duties of the job

Key details for you to consider:

  • You must be 18 or over.
  • This is a hands-on clinical post, playing a vital role in the care of patients.
  • The experience you gain over this 18-month period will prepare you for the full breadth of a Band 2 HCSW role.
  • You will work under the direction of healthcare professionals, taking care of the day-to-day needs of patients by providing help with personal care, meals and mobility.
  • You must be ambitious and show a high level of commitment to the apprenticeship programme and the qualification (Level 2 Clinical Healthcare Support).
  • You will work alongside experienced healthcare support workers and registered healthcare professionals.
  • The role of a healthcare support worker is a physical one and you will be expected to work a shift pattern.
  • On successful completion of the Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship you will be guaranteed an interview for a band 2 Healthcare Support Worker post.
