Job summary
An exciting opportunity has become available to join the Lymphodema service in Cardiff and Vale UHB as part of the clinical leadership team. To support the clinical lead and Lymphodema network in developing both the core service and the newly funded 'On The Ground Educational' programme working with primary care and district nurses to upstream our resources and support patients earlier in the pathway. Highlighting those at greatest risk of and ensuring the correct management pathway is followed. Working closely with the wider network across Wales ,the post holder will provide an expert clinical service to the specialist field of lymphoedema. In addition to managing their own patient caseload they will take a major role in taking overall responsibility for the management of patients across the speciality, who have complex needs and multi-pathologies. They will work as an autonomous practitioner.
Main duties of the job
Working closely with dermatology, tissue viability, therapy and vascular services the post holder will develop and lead a new lymphoedema service predominantly for non cancer lymphoedema patients. This will include providing assessment and appropriate management strategies including Decongestive Lymphatic Therapy, Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Multi layer lymphoedema bandaging, maintenance treatments, education and support for patients developing lymphoedema and district nursing as part of the OGEP work.
The post holder will receive support from the service lead for C&V and Lymphoedema Clinical Lead for Wales in developing an evidence based lymphoedema service. They will also work closely with the Velindre NHS Trust lymphoedema therapists to proactively improve patient's knowledge on preventing cancer lymphoedema through group sessions.
Participation in education courses and patient support groups will be an integral part of this role as well involvement in research, audit and evaluation.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
