Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and experienced HCPC registered Clinical or Biomedical Scientist to lead the Immunophenotyping Laboratory at Cardiff & Vale University Health Board.

This dynamic section provides specialist diagnostic support by Flow Cytometry within the University Health Board and throughout south Wales. The Immunophenotyping laboratory is well equipped with two FACSLyric flow cytometers and offers a wide repertoire of flow cytometry tests. These are mostly 8-colour assays but the laboratory is looking to move towards 12-colour flow cytometry. There is close collaboration with the All-Wales Medical Genomics Service to provide integrated testing for leukaemia and lymphoma and the Bone Marrow Transplant and Stem Cell Processing Units to enumerate CD34+ stem cells and CD3+T-cells in blood and apheresis products.

Shortlisting will score against the essential criteria in the Person Specification. Please explain, in your application, how you meet these requirements.

Main duties of the job

You will lead the busy, friendly and well-respected section and have a keen interest in and recent experience of specialist Immunophenotyping testing gained in an NHS ISO 15189:2012 (or 2022) accredited specialist laboratory environment at a senior supervisory level.

The successful applicant will be expected to keep the service abreast of best practise and current scientific/clinical opinion in this rapidly changing field. You will be encouraged to realise relevant service development objectives and manage clinical and scientific research.
