Main duties of the job

The Family History Coordinator will be the central point of contact for the service, providing information and processing referrals for Genetic Counsellors, Specialist Nurses and doctors. The Family History Coordinator will also need to update and manage the database with patient information and results and will be responsible for drawing family history pedigrees.

The All Wales Medical Genetics Service (AWMGS) provides an equitable, comprehensive service to the people of Wales. It provides an integrated service for identifying, referring and managing patients across Wales with a family history of cancer and other genetic conditions. The post holder will be responsible for the processing of patient referrals to AWMGS by the drawing of family history pedigrees (to an agreed protocol) and confirming cancer diagnoses by locating appropriate patient records.

The successful candidate will also be required to demonstrate excellent communication and IT skills, as well as being committed to providing a quality service to patients; working flexibly and conscientiously to achieve service objectives.

The Directorate encourages personal development and you will be expected to take an active part in the KSF process. Not only is this a busy and challenging specialty but you would also be joining a friendly, dedicated team in Medical Genetics.
