Job summary

An exciting opportunity for an experienced, suitably qualified Business and Communication Officer to join the Directorate Management Team (DMT) of the All Wales Medical Genomics service (AWMGS), working flexibly for 37.5 hours per week.

This is a permanent post currently based at University Hospital of Wales - however, please note that we will be relocating to a new facility at Cardiff Edge in 2023-24. This will be a key role in developing and implementing a business strategy for the service, as well as helping to maintain and raising the profile of the AWMGS as a centre of excellence amongst staff, patients, stakeholders, media and the general public.

The pay progression steps for this post as a Band 6 begin at £35,392 and top at approximately £42,618. The expectation is that all staff will meet the required standards and will, therefore, be able to progress on their pay step date.

The pay progression framework is underpinned by the Values Based Appraisal process and is intended to ensure that all staff within each pay band have the appropriate knowledge and skills they need to carry out their roles and so make the greatest contribution to patient care.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work within the business team, managing a small team, and providing support across all areas of the All Wales Medical Genomics Service.

They will play a key role in both internal and external communications, achieving positive coverage for the AWMGS by delivering effective, proactive marketing and media relations. This will include the preparation, planning and delivery of programmed Marketing, PR and/or Public Engagement events, using developed interpersonal, marketing and communication skills.

They will also lead on specific business and communication projects and programmes, being responsible for their organisation and co-ordination, and measure Performance indicators (PIs) within operations, in addition to contributing to the annual budgets, targets and plans as agreed by the Operations Manager and Senior Leadership Team.
