Job summary
Student Anaesthesia Associates will join the two-year MSc in Anaesthesia and Perioperative Science, which is run by University College London (UCL).
The Job Description outlines the role of a student Anaesthesia Associate (AA).
Student AAs are expected to progress through the 2-year AA training programme, which uses a blended-learning model and combines learning in the clinical environment with academic study. Students will develop practical skills, knowledge, and experience in the clinical environment, and this will be supported by the online learning platform provided by UCL.
Students are expected to undertake self-directed learning, be proactive and be flexible regarding the scheduling of tutorials and other learning opportunities.
Student AAs will be working in acute care settings where patients are vulnerable and dependent on the anaesthetic team for their safe care. Potential candidates need to fully appreciate the complex nature of the working environment and the responsibility involved.
Students will be allocated to a base hospital. However, students must also be able to travel to multiple sites across London to facilitate their learning and meet training requirements.
Students will also be expected to attend training and examinations provided by UCL. This will require access to a vehicle or the ability to use public transport to facilitate this.
Successful candidates will be appointed at Band 6.

About us
Recruitment to all London Student Anaesthesia Associate posts will be conducted in a central process. This will be administered by NHSE London, on behalf of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Barking, Havering & Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.
NHSE will manage the recruitment process and allocate successful Student Anaesthesia Associates to their prospective posts via a preferencing process. We will then pass on the application documentation, including any supporting evidence submitted via the online recruitment portal, to the relevant trust.
The allocated Trust will be the employer and will issue a contract of employment for the duration of the placement to successful candidates.
Please note, whilst NHSE will carry out initial pre-qualifying checks, an offer of employment is subject to each allocated Trusts' own pre-employment checks, as the employing organisation. This includes applicant documentation, confirmation of immigration status/right to work in the UK and verification of clinical references. Once the allocated Trust is satisfied that the pre-employment checks meet their employment standards, the Trust will confirm new starter details with successful candidates
