Job summary

The Training Programme Director (TPD) role is responsible for leading and co-ordinating the training of GP specialty trainees across the Central / South Manchester training programme.

This will include managing the programme for the future and ensuring it can adapt to meet the future needs of the NHSE. The post holder will work with the Head of School, local Associate Dean (GP) and other local educators to ensure each post within the programme meets the standards defined by the GMC, Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) and NHS England.

They will ensure each post enables trainees to access a comprehensive range of experiences which will enable them to meet the requirements of the curriculum during their participation in the programme.

The post holder must be on the GMC GP Register with a minimum of one year's post-CCT experience in the specialty. They must also meet the GMC standards for educational supervisors, be engaged in active clinical practice and in the revalidation process.

Main duties of the job

To contribute to the vision of the local NHSE and to enhance patient care by providing leadership and direction with respect to the quality

To be an advocate and a positive role model on behalf of NHSE, by promoting leadership that inspires, motivates and empowers all staff,

To work on behalf of NHSE, providing expert advice on specialty specific matters.

To work locally with key groups and stakeholders, to attend and host events across the regions, to develop key liaisons and to ensure effective local engagement and responsiveness in line with the culture of NHSE.

To review how multi-professional healthcare teams interact and identify opportunities for different healthcare professions to work

To work with providers and others to support and capture innovation locally and ensure national and local conversations develop 'best practice'.

Essential

  • Primary medical degree
  • On GMC GP Register with a minimum of one year's post-CCT experience in the specialty
  • Current licence to practice and fully engaged in annual appraisal and revalidation
  • Membership/Fellowship of a College, Faculty, professional association and/or regulatory body
  • Attendance at courses aimed to support educational development (example: educator courses, Train the Trainer, etc.)

Desirable

  • On GP Performers list, be engaged in active clinical practice
  • On GMC register of approved GP trainers or clinical supervisors
  • Educational qualification e.g. Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, Masters in Medical Education or equivalent such as Fellow of the Academy of Medical Educators.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with learners or doctors in training in an educational context
  • Experience of clinical and educational leadership and innovation, including managing a multi-professional team
  • Demonstrable track record of delivery in service and education
  • Understanding of developments involving the relevant Colleges/Faculties, professional bodies, related NHS organisations and regulatory bodies
  • Understanding of the workforce transformation agenda
  • Equality and Diversity in the last 3 years
  • Active involvement in, and up to date with, appraisal processes
