QI Analyst

Job responsibilities

In this role, you are accountable for

1. Ability to handle and create highly complex datasets by using business intelligence tools, raw data, SQL queries and data mining techniques to clean, process, interrogate, analyse and visualise data in an effective and informative manner in the most efficient way possible.

2. Provide expert analysis and develop methods to collect, collate and evaluate quantitative and qualitative highly complex and sensitive data by the use of appropriate query tools for performance reporting, financial modelling, business planning and forecasting along with the responsibility for access and management of the information.

3. Responsible for the creation and maintenance of analysis and reports that support delivery, functions and decision making for Citizen Services and the wider business, which includes liaising with finance, fraud and provider assurance teams.

4. Responsible for the development of highly complex predictive forecasting methodologies to inform and drive service delivery strategies and objectives. This involves business and financial planning including formulation and development of options for service optimisation.

5. Conduct advanced analysis, interpretation and presentation of highly complex data and information to support critical decision making and make recommendations for improvements and efficiencies for Citizen Services and, when requested, the wider business and external customers. To use data derived from analysis of systems to provide customer insight and feedback in order to create improvements.

6. Decide on the best methodology to analyse, investigate and resolve highly complex analytical queries or problems where there is a range of solutions or analyses.

7. Communicates and presents highly complex and highly sensitive data and analysis effectively at all levels and to both internal and external stakeholders and sponsors, to both technical and non-technical audiences both verbally and in writing. Ensuring the information provided is accessible and understandable to a wide audience and conforms to high standards.

8. Plan and organise own workload and manage activities or projects requiring formulation or adjustment.

9. Delivers timely and targeted suite of reports in a robust method, which analyse trends over time, shows comparisons of data and encompasses appropriate statistical methods and forecasts of performance. Ensures the accurate delivery of all commentary which forms part of quality information.

10. Responsible for developing fully documented analysis and dashboards to satisfy both routine and ad hoc insight to senior management to support critical decision making and other business areas and external customers, in line with business needs and required specifications along with accompanying notes and definitions to provide actionable intelligence. Also provides an expert resource in both technical skills required to create reports and also the design of dashboards to communicate information and insight effectively.

11. Responsible for providing data to answer Freedom of Information, Parliamentary Questions and Subject Access Requests.

12. Resolve highly complex information problems where there is no precedent or where leading opinions may conflict. Provide analyses to support development and refinement of metrics and reports to highlight trends, identify outlier behaviours within the data sets and risks within NHS services.

13. Represents the organisation as a data/business expert with internal, external customers and stakeholders. Provides ad-hoc support to the management team, where specialist skills/input is required.

14. Responsible for the maintenance of business intelligence tools to meet new and changing requirements. Liaises with the data warehouse team to ensure structures to support reporting needs e.g. a new service, are available

15. Supports training and advice across the relevant services in relation to the appropriate usage and understanding of data and information.

16. Ensure the integrity of the data and all reports and information requests are quality checked in conjunction with business experts and statisticians, where appropriate.

17. Works collaboratively with a diverse range of customers/users within the Organisation at all levels, the NHS and external organisations to define and develop new information products, enhance existing information provision and support target monitoring work.

18. Propose policy or service changes to improve the services and processes of the Health Exemption Services and the wider NHSBSA.

19. Make use of available IT to automate tasks where appropriate.

20. Participate in user acceptance testing for new or changed information systems.

21. Undertakes periodic validation checks of performance and management data to ensure quality, integrity, and accuracy.

22. Works flexibly with colleagues utilising their relevant skills and experience to fully understand the complexities of different services.

23. Responsible for positively achieving team and personal objectives in accordance with ORO.

24. Line manager duties including appraisals, performance reviews, disciplinaries and authorising expenses.

25. Lead by example setting and promoting the highest standards of behaviour across the department. This will be in line with the NHSBSA values and behaviours.

26. Will undertake such other duties as may be required commensurate with grade, training and experience.

Qualifications

Essential

• Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as data analysis, or can demonstrate equivalent work experience or further education training.

Desirable

• Post- Graduate qualification in relevant discipline.

Experience

Essential

• In-depth specialist knowledge of information and quality analysis through relevant qualification(s) or acquired through training or relevant on-the-job experience.
• Experience in advanced data collection, validation, and analysis.
• Significant experience of working within a business reporting environment.
• Experience in personally resolving highly complex queries.
• Advanced understanding of the importance of quality data.
• Significant experience of advising and supporting business areas to gain more insight and value from data.
• Practical applied experience of developing dashboards, reporting or analyses based upon customer requirements.
• Practical applied experience of using Business Intelligence tools with large data sets to achieve significant results

Desirable

• Worked in the NHS or other large organisation.
• Experience of handling sensitive data.
• Experience using data reporting packages and tools.
• Experience of creating dashboards and carrying out analysis using Oracle OBIE or other business intelligence tools.
