Job summary

Here at NHS Business Services Authority, we have a growing digital agenda and an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Frontend Developer to join our Digital, Data and Technology Directorate.

As a Frontend Developer, you will be at the heart of accessible and responsive design for a variety of user interfaces. You will be knowledgeable about accessibility to ensure our interfaces are WCAG 2.2 Level AA compliant.

This is a perfect opportunity for someone who has a passion for design, an eye for detail and excellent communication skills. You will have experience of working with HTML5, CSS3, JS ES6+ and templating languages such as Nunjucks and Thymeleaf in a professional environment.

You will have the opportunity to collaborate and deliver on exciting projects that will make a real difference. You will work closely with stakeholders, forming a deep understanding of customer and organisational requirements.

Main duties of the job

You will translate prototype solutions and business and functional requirements into production quality HTML5/CSS3, while meeting NHSBSA development standards and industry best practices, such as mobile first, Search Engine Optimization and progressive enhancement. You will create responsive web pages that work across a range of devices, browsers and screen sizes and will be responsible for the identification, investigation and resolution of software faults occurring within applications.You will have experience working with web pages for accessibility using browser plugins (Axe, Wave, Google lighthouse) and assistive technologies such as screen readers (JAWS, NVDA or Mac VoiceOver) and speech recognition software (Dragon or VoiceControl) and writing WCAG 2.2 Level AA compliant HTML.You will work within a multi-disciplinary team and support a culture focused on customer needs. You will deliver first-rate user interfaces in a timely manner and within budget. You will contribute to the delivery of interface designs that meet web standards, adhering to government and NHS design patterns.You will be able to effectively communicate technical aspects of Frontend development to non-technical colleagues and collaborate with internal and external business owners, and other designers, developers and relevant stakeholders, to optimise user interfaces within business and technical constraints.
