Job summary

The Policy Officer role is essential in supporting the delivery of the servicesbeyond the end of the transition period following the United Kingdom's departure from the European Union.

Working as part of Overseas Healthcare Services within Citizen Services, the Policy Officer (PO) will play a key role in creating and updating the procedures for the service, ensuring they reflect reciprocal healthcare agreements.

Main duties of the job

Working as part of Overseas Healthcare Services within Citizen Services, the Policy Officer will play a key role in creating and updating the procedures for the service, ensuring they reflect reciprocal healthcare agreements. The Policy Officer should be comfortable working as part of a team as well as individually.

A key element of the role involves working with internal and external stakeholders and customers; therefore, the Policy Officer will need a high level of communication and customer service skills to approach this role effectively.

Working as part of a team, the Policy Officer will use their knowledge of OHS to respond to policy and procedural queries submitted from both internal and external stakeholders and colleagues such as, OHS colleagues, Regional Healthcare Advisors (RHAs), Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and NHS England and Improvement (NHSEI). The Policy Officer will be expected to contribute to the ongoing review and development of the Overseas Healthcare operations.

The Policy Officer should be comfortable in adapting to regular changes to processes and improvements to technology.

Although this is an office-based role, initially the successful candidates will work from home and this will be reassessed as the situation with Covid 19 changes.

In this role, you are accountable for:

  1. Responsible for the accessing systems to collect, collate, analyse and retain all forms of quality, financial and management information.
  1. Ability to handle large datasets with a clear understanding of how to clean, process, analyses and visualise data.
  1. Investigate and respond to policy queries across OHS. When required seeks guidance and confirmation from Department of Health and Social Care policy colleagues.
  1. Communicate policy and procedural changes across the service area, providing instruction and delivering briefing sessions for managers and operations staff where necessary.
  1. Works collaboratively with the NHSBSA communications team to create and maintain accurate content for the intranet and the departments public facing internet. Responds to requests from independent/third party organisations to review content of websites and publications.
  1. Work collaboratively across OHS to prepare the necessary information for Parliamentary Questions, Freedom of Information requests and Subject Access Requests.
  1. Undertake analysis, interpretation and presentation of complex data and information to support decision making for OHS.
  1. Ensures the information provided is accessible and understandable to a wide audience and conforms to high standards.
  1. Produces fully documented information and analyses to satisfy both routine and ad hoc reports to senior management within OHS when required, in line with business needs.
  1. Produces fully documented procedures and articles from pre-approved processes.
