Scientific Adviser

The closing date is 27 March 2026

Job summary

Join NICE as a Scientific Adviser to evaluate Artificial Intelligence for transforming the work of NICE!

Do you have a passion for innovation and transformation? NICE is seeking an experienced Scientific Adviser to drive forward our organisational evolution by harnessing the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) for the core functions of NICE. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping NICE's future, ensuring we maximise AI's capabilities to enhance our ways of working, improve efficiencies, and support evidence-based decision-making.

In this role, you will lead the development and implementation of strategic initiatives that integrate AI into NICE's processes, working collaboratively across teams to identify and capitalise on opportunities for transformation. The ideal candidate will have experience in the use of artificial intelligence in the context of evidence generation in healthcare settings, as well as the ability to run evaluations or pilots of artificial intelligence tools. If you thrive in a fast-paced, forward-thinking environment and are ready to shape the future of NICE, we would love to hear from you.

Role can be based in either our London (E20 1JQ) or Manchester (M1 3BN) office.

Main duties of the job

There is a vacancy in the Real-world Evidence Methods team for a scientific adviser post, focused on developing specialist use of AI in HTA and guideline development, including end-to-end evaluation of AI use cases. The Scientific Adviser's role would work across a portfolio of projects, related to evaluating AI for use and appraisal by NICE and our key stakeholders. The post holder would be expected to lead, co-ordinate and provide expertise across different workstreams. The team adopts a flexible approach, meaning that the specific tasks assigned to the post-holders may change in response to business needs.

The Scientific Adviser may also cover a range of other activities, including:

  • Conducting evaluations, analysing data and disseminating findings in collaboration with partners in the UK and internationally.
  • Developing NICE responses to science policy issues. Typically, a policy response is needed when new research findings, or new policy decisions by government or regulators, mean that NICE's policies or methods require reviewing and/or updating.
  • Working with colleagues across NICE to identify and prioritise areas where methodological research is needed.
  • Working with colleagues across NICE to encourage the implementation and adoption of research or evaluation findings in NICE's methods and processes.
  • Developing applications for research funding in collaboration with partners in the UK and internationally.
  • Engaging with stakeholders and partner organisations.

About us

The Science Evidence and Analytics (SEA) Directorate is responsible for ensuring that NICE uses the best available evidence in its guidance to support decision makers across health and care. The Real-world Evidence Methods team provides leadership in real-world evidence to ensure NICE uses the best and most appropriate evidence in supporting its guidance and products.

Recently, the team has led on developing NICE's Statement of Intent for artificial intelligence which sets out NICE's intention to develop our approach to: 1) providing guidance for technology developers on best practice for artificial intelligence (AI)-based methods to support the evidence generation for their technologies; 2) evaluating AI-based technologies for use in the NHS; 3) and exploring the use of AI-based tools in our own internal processes.

We can offer you a great place to work with good benefits, flexible working, and a supportive, friendly, and inclusive environment.

NICE benefits include:

  • Secure your future with and NHS pension, one of the most rewarding pension schemes in the UK.
  • Enjoy a healthy work-life balance with options like remote working, compressed hours and flexible start/finish times.
  • Save on shopping, dining and more with a Blue Light Card.
  • Start with 27 days' annual leave plus Bank Holidays.
  • Join supportive communities like Women in NICE, Race Equality Network, Disability Advocacy and more - we celebrate diversity.
