Job summary

NICE is seeking to appoint a Topic Adviser to its guideline committee for the Domestic violence and abuse: multi-agency working guideline update.

The Topic Adviser will work in collaboration with NICE staff, the Chair and the Committee to develop a guideline update on behalf of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

The Topic Adviser will provide expert knowledge on Domestic violence and abuse and act as a source of professional advice to the guideline Chair and NICE staff in the identification and review of evidence. This includes providing input to the early development of the scope, assisting with queries, contribute to discussions at the committee meetings and quality assuring the content of the guideline.

We are looking for a practicing professional from either a healthcare or social care background with demonstrable relevant experience and clinical knowledge in the field of Domestic violence and abuse. Strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, along with an ability to communicate complex issues to differing audiences.

Applicants should have a commitment to evidence based practice, ideally with experience of guideline development processes, an understanding of systematic reviewing, critical appraisal methods and the role of health economics in supporting decision-making.

Interviews are scheduled to take place on Tuesday the 18 November 2025.

Main duties of the job

The Topic Advisor will :

To work in collaboration with NICE staff, the guideline Chair and the Committee over a period of 18 months to develop a clinical guideline on Domestic violence and abuse: multi-agency working on behalf of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

To provide expert knowledge on Domestic violence and abuse and act as a source of clinical advice to the guideline Chair and NICE staff in the identification and review of evidence.

The Topic Adviser will be supported by NICE staff who will be responsible for overall project management, organising Committee meetings, carrying out evidence reviews and economic analysis.

All Committee Members are expected to:

Act in accordance with the principles of the NICE Code of Conduct

Participate in NICE Committee training

Have regular and frequent contact with the NICE project manager throughout the lifetime of the guideline for planning purposes and be able to answer queries at short notice

Attend all 12 Committee meetings, held 6 weekly over a period of approximately 18 months. These are normally held virtually but will also include some face to face meetings.

Participate in scoping meetings and a scoping workshop

About us

Committee members are expected to attend 12 day-long committee meetings over 18 months during the guidance development. Our committees meetings are predominantly virtual, with a small number of meetings held in a hybrid format.

In addition to attending committee meetings a variety of other input is required from committee members, for which an honorarium is not currently paid.

The Topic Adviser also undertakes additional work before development to scope the guideline - including attendance at scoping meetings and a one-day workshop - and after development, during consultation, validation, publication and post-publication phases.
