Chief Executive, NICE Pay band: ESM3, £161,600 - £208,000 (dependant on experience) September, 2025

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is seeking an exceptional and visionary Chief Executive to lead the continued development and delivery of its ongoing transformation.

NICE has a nationally critical role at the intersection of scientific research, healthcare innovation and improvement, and value for money. This is a unique opportunity to lead an organisation with a global reputation for excellence in evidence-based guidance, at a time when innovation, equity and transformation are central to the health and care agenda.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will lead the evolution and advancement of NICE's strategic plan, ensuring the organisation continues to adapt in response to the changing needs of the health and care system. With a clear focus on identifying ways through which the health system can improve outcomes and reduce health inequalities, the new Chief Executive will champion innovation, digital adoption and efficiency, ensuring NICE remains agile, expert, and outward-looking.

Leading this world-class organisation requires clarity of vision and the ability to inspire a workforce of exceptional colleagues, whilst balancing the needs and demands of a multiplicity of committed stakeholders. The new Chief Executive will demonstrate a track record of senior leadership in a high-impact setting, alongside the energy and resilience to navigate complex ambiguity and change. Your ability to influence, negotiate and build consensus across a diverse and multi-layered stakeholder landscape will be critical to success.

The role may be based in either London or Manchester, where NICE has its offices. In order to be a visible leader for its 800 staff, the CEO will be expected to be spend a reasonable amount of time in both locations. NICE is, however, supportive of flexible working arrangements and open to discussions on how this might be achieved.
