Job summary
This role qualifies for a £5000 per annum additional recruitment and retention payment.
The role requires an equal balance of technical expertise, gained through current, hands-on involvement in developing real-world systems, and excellent interpersonal skills allied with the ability to quickly develop strong working relationships in a complex environment.
For this role you will:o be an expert in many technical areas or a specialist with very deep knowledge in a particular technical areao use this knowledge, and work with related disciplines, to keep multiple teams working effectivelyo develop capability by facilitating internal mobility, shaping career paths and recruiting talent, ensuring they collaborate
The post holder will line-manage all lead developers and the Lead Technical Testers, they will work collaboratively with their team to allocate leadership responsibilities across a range of core functions The emphasis of the role will be on ensuring due process and governance are in place to drive transparent, well-communicated shared decision making about software engineering and technology architecture, across the broader DIT team.
Main duties of the job
o Line management of the senior team (cannot be delegated).
o Build and promote best practice for development across delivery teamsincluding advising on coding standards and methods, ensuring compliance, and maintaining technical responsibility across all stages the software development life cycle.
o Drive adoption of closer working with the web operations team to foster a dev-ops culture.
o Contribute to the developer and tester resourcing decisions made by the DIT Senior Team overseeing the delivery teams.
o Build the team capability and culture including establishing technical recruitment need and defining career / professional development for the developers and testers.
o Advise on, manage and implement agile delivery projects within NICE, providing guidance, mentoring and training in agile technical delivery and evolutionary software architecture.
o Assist with building a culture of continuous delivery and improvement, ensuring that key systems are regularly analysed, maintained and improved.
o Take responsibility for coaching and guiding others.
o Push decision making to the right level within their teams, not allow unnecessary bureaucracy and structure to suppress innovation and delivery.
