Health Technology Assessment Adviser, Technology Appraisals/Highly Specialised Technologies

The Health Technology Assessment Adviser is responsible for ensuring the technical quality of the outputs of the Appraisals Team and for the line management of a group of Health Technology Assessment Analysts.Roles can be based in either our Manchester or London office. Interviews are anticipated to be on 1st and 2nd July.

Main duties of the job

The Health Technology Assessment Adviser is responsible for ensuring the technical quality of the outputs of the Appraisals Team and for the line management of a group of Health Technology Assessment Analysts. This involves providing leadership on technical issues, reviewing and quality assuring the work of the team of Health Technology Assessment Analysts, contributing to the training and development of new and existing members of staff, and leading the development of high-quality methodological practice across the Appraisals Programme. These roles are in addition to acting as Technical Lead on some appraisals, and include participating in appeal hearings and providing scientific advice to technology developers.

The job holder is expected to be an expert in the methods of health technology assessment, including health economics, medical statistics, clinical trials, epidemiology or related areas.

The Medicines Evaluation Topic Delivery team is responsible for providing guidance to the NHS and patients on the clinical and cost effectiveness of technologies and their optimal position in clinical practice. Though recommendations are covered by a funding direction from the Secretary of State, our recommendations are not instructions to practitioners, but they are expected to take them into account and patients' access to what we recommend is guaranteed in the NHS Constitution. The Medicines Evaluation Directorate is mandated to evaluate all medicines that receive marketing authorisation in the UK, and its guidance therefore has significant impact on patients and the NHS.
