The successful applicant will be responsible for assessing patient needs and planning, implementing and evaluating a programme of care.
They will utilize all available resources and take into consideration the lifestyle, gender and cultural background of the patient, ensuring involvement with the patient, family, carers and significant others.
Main duties of the job
- Ensure a thorough assessment and safe preparation of the Operating Suite prior to surgery.
- To participate in the development and implementation of all special protocols.
- Ensure safe disposal of clinical waste, linen, bodily fluids and sharps in accordance with the GHA & Departmental Policy.
- Demonstrate an awareness of current professional issues and participate in Evidence Based Practice.
- Maintain Operating Department standards in order to contribute effectively to the Operating Departments audit programme.
- Participate in clinical supervision and individual performance review in the Operating Department.
- To participate in the departmental standby rota.
- Preparing splints and plaster in the Operating Department.
- Assisting in the movement of patients in the Operating.
- Department and between the Operating Department and ITU.
- Participate as a member of the resuscitation team.
- Assisting in the care, labelling and despatching of specimens.
- Participating as a scrubbed member of the theatre team in surgical procedures and carrying out safety checks of swabs/needles/instruments as per departmental policy.
- Positioning and preparation of patient on the operating table as required by the Surgeon and Anaesthetist.

Services are mainly provided from St. Bernards Hospital. The hospital also collaborates with international medical institutions for specialised treatment and support.
