Job summary

This role is located in a British Overseas Territory, therefore UK legislation such as the Data Protection Act (2018) and the Equality Act (2010), or similar, may not apply.

  • To provide Management and Clinical supervision for Junior Staff.
  • To participate within the ongoing Educational Programme and to formulate care plans together with Senior Staff Members.
  • Assesses patients, plan, implements care, provides advice, maintains associated records.
  • To work within the nursing and multi-professional team to ensure a high standard of care to a defined patient group.
  • Participate in the on call rota.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for assessing patient needs, planning, implementation and evaluation of a programme of care which is evidence based utilising all available resources taking into consideration the lifestyle, gender and cultural background and ensure involvement with the patient, family, carers and significant others.
  • Organise own workload to ensure that the interests of the patients/clients are met.
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as requested by GHA Senior Management

The GHA aims to provide high quality, accessible healthcare for all residents, and it operates a range of services from primary care to more specialised treatments.

The GHAs responsibilities include: services through clinics, outpatient services, and hospital care. Managing emergency medical services and accident and emergency (A&E) services. Conducting health campaigns and initiatives aimed at disease prevention and health promotion. Offering mental health care and community-based health services.

Services are mainly provided from St. Bernards Hospital. The hospital also collaborates with international medical institutions for specialised treatment and support.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Administration and management of medications in anaesthetics, surgery and post-operative recovery.
  • Setting up for all surgical procures ensuring all sets and supplies are in available in a timely manner.
  • Liaising with the surgeon on all speciality equipment required for safe surgical practice.
  • Checking of all emergency equipment on all shifts and on calls.
  • Catheterise patients peri operatively.
  • Venepuncture and cannulation (May require a period of training and supervision).
  • Working with patients within confined areas.
  • Frequent re positioning of patients both, conscious or unconscious.
  • Handling confused and agitated patients.
  • Participating in resuscitation attempts.
  • Moving and Handling of heavy patients and/or objects in line with Manual Handling Regulations.
  • Wearing a lead apron for long periods of time.
  • Standing/walking for the majority of the shift.

Desirable

  • Ability to work in all specialities in theatres and or DSU.

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc in Adult Nursing.
  • NRB Registration.
  • Extended clinical skills relevant to Theatres Self-motivated and works well under pressure, taking into account clinical priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise with members of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to foster teamwork Experience in cross cover in surgical specialties.

Desirable

  • Mentorship experience and qualification HCPC registered.
  • Anaesthetic qualification.
  • 1st assistant surgical qualification.
