The successful candidate will be working as part of the team of four Consultants. There are five theatres including a dedicated Day Case Unit and offer DGH level ENT, Maxillofacial Surgery, Dental Surgery, General Surgery (including colorectal and bariatric), Urology, Orthopaedics & Trauma, Gynae & Obs, Ophthalmics and Chronic Pain giving the successful applicant a varied clinical workload.
On call duties are currently 1 in 4 off site, whereby Consultants are called for advice, review of admissions and urgent assessments of patients in the Emergency Department.
Main duties of the job
Providing a general obstetrics and gynaecology service to residents of all age groups in Gibraltar and an active participation in clinical governance responsibilities involving audit, teaching and administration, with special emphasis on clinical quality improvement, risk management and will share in the development and updating of clinical guidelines within the multidisciplinary team.
The ideal candidate should have broad experience and should be a generalist. There is scope for subspecialty interest e.g. laparoscopic procedures and urogynaecology.

The successful candidate is expected to utilise the SPAs to deliver service improvements for the unit, including but not limited to audit, development of new services, and tangible quality improvements. The organisation is currently undergoing a transformation and modernisation process and as part of this, Job Plans and PA utilisation will be reviewed yearly.
The appointee should expect to contribute to the organisation, promotion, and administration of the department of obstetrics and gynaecology.
The appointee will also be required to participate in teaching undergraduate medical students as well as nursing and medical colleagues. The Gibraltar Health Authority supports the requirements for Continuing Medical Education as laid down by the Royal Colleges and the GMC and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities and encourages the Continuing Professional Development of its entire staff. Central to this is an annual developmental appraisal of all GHA medical staff. Appraisals are performed by Wessex Deanery, recognised by the General Medical Council.
Access to a personal computer (including Internet access), appropriate IT support and training will be available if required. Consultants in the Directorate have shared offices / Clinical rooms and shared, though nominated, secretarial support. Appropriate support will be provided, considering the nature of these posts.
