Job summary
We are recruiting an interim Medical Director for Secondary Care for an initial period of 6 months, and this role is available on either a fixed-term contract or a secondment.
The Medical Director for Secondary Care and Quality is a pivotal role in the Medical Directorate and supporting the National Chief Operating Officer and their deputies to deliver shared national priorities across UEC, Elective, Cancer, Mental Health, Community and Diagnostic recovery strategies. The post-holder is responsible for developing a national clinical effectiveness strategy and ensuring effective quality governance in NHS England, Integrated Care Systems, and providers.
The post-holder will provide strong national clinical leadership in secondary care to improve and transform services, safety, and outcomes for patients, working closely with the Medical Directors for Primary Care and Public Health and others towards better integrated healthcare.
Main duties of the job
Some of the skills and experience we're looking for:
- Clinical leadership and influence across the whole system of care with a specific focus on the secondary care sector and supporting improvements in the transformation of quality, safety, and experience of patient care are enhanced in, engaging clinicians and leaders at all levels to promote clinical improvement expertise and reduce variation where it exists.
- Ability to engage with and build consensus with a wide range of stakeholders from across the health and care system including national and regional directors and their teams, Integrated Care Systems (ICSs), providers of healthcare, professional bodies, Government departments and other agencies in the health and social care system such as Care Quality Commission and Health Education England.
- Application of evidence based clinical practice, service design, integrated care, commissioning and provider support to secure gains in health outcomes and lead on specific strategic healthcare challenges.
- Proven track record of delivering major change programmes to transform clinical services
- Experience of operating in complex, highly political environments
- Ability to inspire and lead diverse teams to work collaboratively to agree and deliver shared objectives
