Job summary

We are looking for a full-time Senior Data and Insights Analyst to join our Research and Intelligence team to lead on using data across the HFEA including in statistical reports and our award-winning dashboards, as well managing preparation of large and sensitive datasets for specific research purposes.

The HFEA holds the longest running national dataset of fertility treatment in the world keeping a record of every patient, partner, donor, and child born as a result of fertility treatment since 1991.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Data and Insights Analyst is responsible for extracting information from our registerfor all internal and externalpublications, as well as for data researchers through applications to our Register Research Panel. They champion use of our data internally to inform policy decisions to improve the way we regulate, as well as externally through publications, public enquiries and working with data researchers. Within the HFEA, the Analyst is responsible for providing regular, useful and accurate extracts of our register data and providing methodological advice on all intelligence projects and publications.

The post holder will also contribute and lead on publications such as our flagship annual publication, Fertility Trends, working with team members to ensure accuracy and relevance to our audiences. Recent publications include our National Patient Survey and our Family formations in fertility treatment report. They will also lead on updates to our HFEA dashboard, which won the 2024 award for Trustworthiness, Quality and Value, and in improving data for use in our functions in regulating licensed fertility centres.

The HFEA is the UK's independent regulator overseeing safe and appropriate practice in fertility treatment and embryo research. We license and monitor clinics carrying out IVF, donor insemination, and human embryo research.

This post is offered as either office based (in which case you will need to attend the office at least one day per week)or home based (in which case office attendance will be specified by your line manager based on business need). Our office is in Stratford, east London, in attractive new premises on the edge of the Olympic Park, alongside several other health Arms Length Bodies. They are responsible for leading on external official statistics publications and managing the teams quality assure processes. The Senior Data and Insights Analyst is responsible for extracting information from the register for all internal and external publications with their report, the Data and Insights Analyst, as well as for data researchers through applications to our Register Research Panel. They champion use of our data internally to inform policy decisions to improve the way we regulate, as well as externally through official statistics publications, public enquiries and working with data researchers.

Within the HFEA, the Senior Data and Insights Analyst is responsible for leading on the production of regular, useful and accurate extracts of register data and providing methodological advice on all Research and Intelligence projects and publications. The Analyst also acts as an advisory contact for register data to colleagues from across the HFEA including senior management, inspection, IT, compliance, legal, register and policy teams as well as external organisations such as Department of Health and Social Care and research establishments.

The HFEA has recently launched a new data submission system and completed a data migration project, to modernise the register. This presents an exciting opportunity to make better use of our register data and enable greater access to it over time. This will include leading their team in developing our award-winning HFEA dashboard, and improving use of our data in our functions in regulating licensed fertility centres.

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent and significant experience in settings that require a high level of quantitative analytical skill

Desirable

  • Masters or PhD in a subject with a significant quantitative component
