Job summary
The Deputy Regional Director of Public Health in the South West regional team is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-professional public health team at the heart of implementing new government and NHS policy and collaborating with dynamic local systems in a diverse and vibrant region.
Based primarily in the regional OHID office in Bristol, the role spans the South West region including Bath, Wiltshire, Bristol, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly, Devon and Dorset, working with 7 ICBs, colleagues in UKHSA SW regional team and an excellent network of local authority Directors of Public Health and their teams.
The primary purpose of the Deputy Regional Director (DRD) is to work together with the Regional Director (RD) and deputise on their behalf to lead the delivery of regional priorities for public health across the three domains of public health (improvement, protection and healthcare public health) and leadership with strategic partners within the South West region.The DRD is a senior public health expert who on behalf of the RD takes the lead for specific programmes of work regionally and nationally as agreed. The DRD works closely with the RD and operational service areas to set strategic direction through strong, visible and professional leadership and is responsible for ensuring that the RD receives appropriate assurance on the effective delivery of operational performance by the regional teams.
Main duties of the job
The DRD will support the RD to lead the development and implementation of an integrated regional strategy for public health driving transformational change as necessary to deliver both national and local priorities, reduce health inequalities and improve population health. The RD and their teams require close relationships with local government, the NHS and other local partners in the delivery of OHID services and functions locally through provision of expert advice and services, including bringing local insight and perspective to national policies. Alongside RDs, DRDs are responsible for strategic relationship management across a range of internal and external stakeholders and for broader partnership working, operating flexibly to develop productive working relationships, systems and joint approaches and lead arrangements with others to maximise OHIDs impact.
