Job summary
The Deputy Regional Director of Public Health in the South West regional team is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-professional public health team at the heart of implementing new government and NHS policy and collaborating with dynamic local systems in a diverse and vibrant region.
Based primarily in the regional OHID office in Bristol, the role spans the South West region including Bath, Wiltshire, Bristol, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly, Devon and Dorset, working with 7 ICS systems, colleagues in UKHSA SW regional team and an excellent network of local authority Directors of Public Health and their teams.
The candidate must have a strong commitment to Public Health principles and team working. They must be self-motivated, pro-active and innovative and demonstrate high standards of professional probity as well as have the ability to prioritise work, working well against a background of change and uncertainty. They must be adaptable to situations and can handle people of all capabilities and attitudes and be a sensible negotiator with practical expectation of what can be achieved.
Main duties of the job
This is a senior post which will support the Regional Director OHID/Regional Director of Public Health for NHSE.The primary purpose of the postholder is to work together with the Regional Director (RD) and deputise on their behalf to lead the delivery of regional priorities for public health across the three domains of public health (improvement, protection and healthcare public health) and leadership with strategic partners within the region.
The DRD supports the RD in leading OHIDs contribution to the local public health systems and leads on its relationship with local government in the patch, working closely to support local government Directors of Public Health, their teams and the wider local government leadership in both upper tier and combined authorities.
The DRD role is an essential post and is integral in supporting the RD in system leadership for population health with partners across the designated region. The DRD works within a highly complex, sensitive and multi-dimensional environment and will exercise senior leadership, influence and negotiation across the public health system to ensure that the best possible outcomes can be achieved through new and innovative ways of working.
