Job summary

Are you looking for a new challenge and next step in your Public Health Intelligence career? This is an exciting opportunity to lead and develop the Public Health Intelligence function within the Barking & Dagenham Public Health team as our Senior Public Health Intelligence Specialist. This post has a crucial role in enabling public health to better support the Council and partners to ensure that decision making is routinely informed by evidence and intelligence that is tailored to the local context. This role will bring with it the responsibility and opportunity to shape the Public Health Intelligence function in collaboration with a Public Health Consultant, Director of Public Health and other key partners, to meet the needs of the Council, the Barking & Dagenham Place Based Partnership and other community organisations. The post holder will be a senior member of the public health team and contribute to leadership of the team. This role will also include opportunities to work collaboratively across the North East London Integrated Care Board.

Main duties of the job

Supporting the Barking and Dagenham Place-based Partnership to

- Prioritise resource and activity effectively based upon most up to date data on population health needs and high-quality public health intelligence and analytical advice.

- Decide policy, strategy and action that is informed by the health and wellbeing needs and inequalities of the population and the opportunities to improve population health.

- Develop and appropriately use population health management approaches which have been initiated by NEL ICB and Barking and Dagenham Place-based Partnership.

Lead on the development and writing of key reports to inform planning and delivery of services, including the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment and deeper dive Needs Assessments on key prioritised areas to support delivery and planning of services and programmes. This will involve collaborating closely with key colleagues across the partnership; and bringing together quantitative and qualitative intelligence.

Assure the public health intelligence team deliver on timely collating and processing of data returns for national government that meet quality standards. (e.g., NHS Health Checks, National Child Measurement Programme).

As Senior Public Health Intelligence Specialist the postholder will lead and advise public health intelligence to embed an insight informed decision-making culture and enable Barking and Dagenham Place-based Partnership to improve population health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities.

We are seeking a candidate who can both deliver traditional public health intelligence and has the skills and experience to help shape an integrated data function at place. As such we seek a collaborative and innovative individual who has expertise across public health, intelligence and epidemiology and advanced data analytical skills and working well in partnership across sectors and organisations.

The postholder will be responsible for the provision and management of quantitative and qualitative data and the delivery of high-quality insight and analysis to inform decision-making and service development. They will play an active role in building relationships and networks in order to maximise collaborative opportunities, explore work synergies, improve our understanding of local needs and develop comprehensive actions to meet these needs.

The postholder will sit in the Public Health team and be directly line managed by one of the Public Health Consultants. The role will involve working closely aligned with the Councils Insights and Innovations Team and collaborating closely with North East London Integrated Care Boards (NEL ICB) Business Intelligence team and Barking and Dagenham place-based leadership. The postholder will be responsible for supervision and possibly line management of one other analyst within the team.
