Job summary

Hollies Care Home lies at the heart of the picturesque village of Burghfield Common. The home is set within a charming mansion house and supports up to 58 residents.

Our dedicated team provide residential and nursing care to older people living with dementia, and nursing care for people aged 65 and over who are living with long term health conditions.

The home recently became part of the Optalis family and we are looking to recruit an additional Deputy Manager (clinical) to support the team on a full-time (44hpw) permanent basis.

We are also recruiting for an interim Deputy Manager to support in running the home whilst we recruit a permanent position - ideally this is someone that can start immediately and is comfortable with a short fixed-term contract.

Main duties of the job

You will assist the Home Manager in the the day-to-day running of Hollies Care Home and will set the highest standards, ensuring a welcoming, safe and engaging environment for all customers, visitors and employees.

As an NMC registered Registered Nurse with experience of working in a nursing home, you will also have an NVQ 5 or have proven experience of clinical risk assessments, and managing safeguarding and investigations.

You will be responsible for monitoring the standard of care being delivered, ensuring safe staffing levels through rota management, and that all staff are fully trained and regularly supervised.

Crucially, you must be confident to manage the home in the absence of the manager.

Job responsibilities

  • Responsible for consistently monitoring the standard of care being delivered to all service users to ensure it is at the optimum levels at all times. Ensuring that all residents receive quality medical and personal care and that care plans are fully maintained.
  • Act in line with NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Support the Manager in the implementation of all policies, procedures and business objectives.
  • To manage the Home in the absence of the Home Manager in line with the company guidelines.
  • Maintain and prepare the staff duty rota to ensure appropriate staffing levels at all times.
  • Conduct staff supervisions and appraisals in line with policy and to meet with external regulator guidelines.
  • Responsible for ensuring all staff are trained and updated on safe systems of work including Manual Handling and Fire Safety evacuation procedures through the induction process.
  • Responsible for monitoring the state of wellbeing of each resident, being aware of any change impacting on care and care plans, ensuring that new needs are met and written records are amended to reflect any variation.
  • Act as a focal point for contact with residents, their relatives and visitors, as well as health and social care professionals involved in their wellbeing, ensuring that any reasonable requests are acted upon and concerns or complaints are promptly investigated and dealt with appropriately.
  • Understand your personal responsibilities in relation to the Health and Safety at Work Act including a working knowledge of COSHH assessments.
  • Act in a professional and courteous manner towards residents and their visitors, respecting the dignity and individuality of each resident ensuring effective communication is maintained.
  • Develop a welcoming culture within the home to encourage an engaged team working ethos, responding positively to colleagues and actioning all reasonable work instructions promptly.
  • Liaise and advise on the supply and quality of items purchased by the home in line with specific tasks, ensuring the timely and appropriate ordering of replacement goods.
  • Attend and encourage staff to attend all relevant staff meetings.
