There is a national target to achieve a "smokefree" England by 2030, defined as reducing the adult smoking prevalence to 5% or less. The CURE (Conversation, Understand, Replace, Experts and Evidence based) smoking cessation programme in UHL (University Hospitals Leicester) supports people to manage their tobacco dependence while in hospital and offer them the option to attempt quitting with support. This role is integral to improving the health and wellbeing of the people of Leicester and Leicestershire. The CURE team help people to significantly improve their health though quitting smoking, often at a time of great stress when they are in hospital. You will be in a unique and privileged position to dramatically affect peoples lives in a positive way. In this role you would be responsible for.

Main duties of the job

  • Managing a team of advisors across UHL hospitals in Leicester to support people with their tobacco dependence
  • Supporting the team to achieve targets for the number of people that are seen by the service, having high quality interactions with patients and supporting their quit attempts
  • Identifying areas for improvement and supporting changes to develop and improve the service
  • Training UHL staff on tobacco, and ways to support patients to quit with nicotine replacement therapy, medications and behavioural therapy
  • Liaising with UHL hospital staff to arrange training; with community stop smoking services to improve pathways; and with pharmacists to improve prescribing.
