Assessment Team (RATS) - Accident & Emergency Department, York Hospital
York Hospital has recently opened the new A&E Department. The
Hospital Social Work Team, have an employment opportunitywithin the Rapid
Assessment Team (RATS) based in A&E.
Main duties of the job
The
post is for a Social Worker (22 hours per week), workingin a
multi-disciplinaryteamalongside Physiotherapy and Occupational
Therapy colleagues from health. The team is well established and is staffed
with experienced Social Workers. The team cover A&E 7 days a week and
working between 8am to 8pm on a rotational basis. As a social worker in RATS,
you do not hold a case load, your remit is to prevent admission to acute
care, working to a home first and strength-based ethos. You will support
customers from York, North Yorkshire, and East Riding and out of area who
present at A&E. The work is interesting and varied and would appeal to
those who like fast paced rapid assessment work and have at least 2 years post
qualifying experience and are looking for a change.
You
will receive monthly supervision and be supported by the hospital social work
management team; we have monthly team meetings and peer support.

Essential
- KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- A professional qualification in Social Work and be registered with Social Work England as a Social Worker.
- Ability to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English, to Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) - level C1 - Effective operational proficiency or advanced - Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.
- This post requires the post holder to undertake an enhanced adult workforce (with barred list check) criminal record check via the Disclosure and Barring Service.
Desirable
- Demonstrate and uphold Social Work England Professional Standards
- A sound understanding and application of legislative frameworks underpinning adult social care, for example the Care Act 2014, and the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) 2005, Mental Health Act 1989 and the Human Rights Act 1998
- An understanding of statutory social work, including critical awareness of current issues and new evidenceinformed practice research
- Demonstration of an ongoing commitment to continuing professional development and be able to evidence this in their everyday practice and supervision, sharing CPD opportunities and learning from training events
- Be able to identify and take up opportunities for professional development and training relevant to the role
- Recognition of the high level of confidentiality required in working with people, their carers and families and help to manage sufficient security of such information, recognising, being able to justify and take appropriate action when the right to privacy is superseded by professional or legal requirements
- Ability to work as part of a team and take a multi-agency approach where needed, working alongside other professionals to secure positive outcomes for people
- Demonstrable critical knowledge of a range of theories and models for social work intervention
