York Council is offering an exciting opportunity to join our developing 0-19
Healthy Child Service as a specialist Community Public Health Nurse - Student
Health Visitor/School Nurse.
Main duties of the job
We are
looking for compassionate, accountable individuals motivated to meet the
demands of the SCPHN course through attendance at Hull University.
You will
be a current NMC Registered Nurse (Adult, child, learning Disabilities, Mental
Health) or midwife.
You will undertake Specialist Community Public
Health Practitioner training, incorporating theoretical and practical elements
in order to develop the knowledge and skills required to practice safely and
effectively as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse Health Visitor/
School Nurse.
You will be responsible for the efficient delivery
of a universal core service, targeted interventions and public health
interventions to children, young people and their families.
You will be responsible for the planning and delivery of the Healthy
Child Programme, under the leadership of the Healthy Child Service Team Manager,
to ensure the best health outcomes for children, young people and families
across the City of York are achieved

Job responsibilities
The post holder will be responsible for the planning and delivery of the Healthy Child Programme, under the leadership of the Healthy Child Service Manager, to ensure the best health outcomes for children, young people and families across the City of York are achieved.
The unique nature of this service means that the post holder will ensure there are robust and positive links into the NHS and will work closely with GPs, Paediatricians, specialist services amongst others.
To fulfil the requirements of the Specialist Community Practitioner programme through attendance at university course dates and practice placement days in accordance with university regulations, working with the Healthy Child Practice Educator/s to develop skills and competencies to achieve NMC registration standards.
To be a visible, proactive leader of the Healthy Child Programme across the City of York, working collaboratively with other agencies, particularly NHS colleagues, to maximize the contribution to public health improvements in the local community and improve health outcomes for children and young people.

Essential
- Ability to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English, to Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) - level C1 - Effective operational proficiency or advanced - Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.
- This post requires the post holder to undertake an Enhanced child workforce (with barred list check) Criminal Record check via the Disclosure and Barring Service.
Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Nurse or Midwife on part 1 or 2 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register.
Desirable
- Ability to manage a caseload.
- Evidence of continuous professional development.
- Willing to undertake further training as required.
- Experience of clinical audit.
- Proficient in use of IT.
- Chairing, negotiating and influencing skills.
- Ability to produce clear written reports and deliver effectively to a wide audience.
- Ability to manage changing priorities and have a positive approach to change.
- Ability to work effectively within a team but also independently.
- Ability to confidently challenge practice, support colleagues and offer practical and safe solutions.
