West Berkshire Council is seeking a skilled and motivated Public Health Performance and Commissioning Officer to join our Public Health and Wellbeing team. This is a key role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based, and value-for-money public health services that improve outcomes for our local population.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is educated to degree level or has equivalent experience
  • Holds a qualification or has experience in business, accountancy, or financial management
  • Is registered (or willing to work towards registration) with the UK Public Health Register
  • Has experience in commissioning, financial management, and partnership working
  • Demonstrates excellent communication, organisational, and IT skills
  • Has a strong understanding of public health principles and the health and care system

About the Public Health Team

West Berkshires Public Health team is a dynamic, forward-thinking group committed to improving population health and reducing inequalities. Led by the Joint Director of Public Health for Reading and West Berkshire, the team works collaboratively across the council and with system partners to embed public health principles into everything we dodriven by evidence, innovation, and a strong commitment to community wellbeing.

Main duties of the job

About the Role

The postholderwill lead on the commissioning and performance management of a range of public health services, including:

  • Public health nursing (019 years)
  • Integrated sexual health services
  • Stop smoking services
  • NHS Health Checks
  • Cardiovascular disease prevention programmes

You will manage the full commissioning cycle, including specification development, market engagement, contract management, and performance monitoring. The role also involves financial oversight of public health grant-funded contracts, including forecasting, auditing, and reporting.
