This is an exciting opportunity to join our public health team in Herefordshire. We are a small, well established team in an organisation and system that values public health and prevention.

As one of the Councils senior leaders, your role will involve leading our adult health improvement. This includes smoking, NHS Health Checks and substance misuse and other programme area as service priorities dictate. The rurality of Herefordshire combined with its small city and market towns provides a challenge in how we commission and provide services.

Main duties of the job

The councils Flexible Futures programme offers a number of initiatives that support staff in their flexible working choices along with creating agile office environments at a number of work locations across the county.

The role will be of interest to either anewly qualified or seeking your first Consultant post or an experienced Consultant.We would like to hear from individuals that share our desire to make a difference, innovate andtake pride in their work.

The appointment will be for 30 hours (0.8 FTE) per week. Interviews will take place at the end of June 2023.

The CPH is a member of the senior management team of the Public Health team in Herefordshire. Public Health Arrangements

The Public Health Team is led by the Director of Public Health. We are a small core public health team who work closely with colleagues across the Council and through our external partners to improve the health and wellbeing of Herefordshire residents.

The Public Health Team is approved for the training of public health specialists (Foundation Programme, SHOs, and Specialty Registrars in Public Health). The Public Health team is part of the West Midlands Public Health Network CPD activities programme and it expects its consultant staff to attend CPD activities as appropriate and as required by the Faculty of Public Health

The post holder will be provided with a laptop and full remote access facility. The council is a flexible employer and is committed to staff working off site with limited requirements to be based in the offices in Herefordshire Plough Lane office. The Council has effective arrangements in place to support home working through its Flexible Futures Programme

The post-holder working with the DPH and other consultant colleagues will lead on improving the health and wellbeing of the residents which is underpinned by the statutory duty placed on local government to take such steps as it considers appropriate to improve health of its residents.
