Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the shared public health service of Bedford Borough, Milton Keynes City and Central Bedfordshire Councils as a Population Health Analyst.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work closely with the Senior Public Health Officer to provide population health analysis and advice as part of a shared Population Health, Evidence and Intelligence Team that works across three local authorities and the Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care System (BLMK ICS). The post holder will provide data analysis and advice to the public health team and wider partners, as part of the BLMK ICS.

You will support the collection of information and the processing of data to ensure its quality and integrity, and use best practice to maintain and enhance existing datasets, also help to develop new data collections to support the changing information needs of stakeholders.

Youwill be responsible for supporting delivery of the Public Health data programme and the core technology used to deliver it, the council's Modern Data Platform in Microsoft Azure and Power Bi. They will use their experience of a variety of tools such as MS Excel, Qlik, SQL, R, Python, QGIS, Power BI and Tableau to define solutions and support colleagues in their use of such tools. Job responsibilities

To collect, collate, analyse, interpret and communicate population health intelligence to support Bedford Borough, Central Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes Councils and also Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care System (BLMK ICS).

To contribute to the delivery of the statutory Core Offer to Bedford Brough, Central Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes Councils and also Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care System (i.e. provision of population health advice, evidence, intelligence and evaluation); and to take a key role in the production of regular and ad hoc public health reports including statutory Joint Strategic Needs Assessments, Pharmaceutical Needs Assessments and Director of Public Health reports. To support the delivery of the Public Health data programme and the core technology used to deliver it, the councils Modern Data Platform in Microsoft Azure and Power Bi.

Sourcing

Identify data needs and obtain, verify and organise that data and information. Assist in extracting and analysing information from population health intelligence and epidemiological sources

Successfully providing or signpost to the correct epidemiological sources

Work closely with public health teams, to improve their access to and use of the knowledge, intelligence and suite of tools developed and published by Office for Health Improvement & Disparities (OHID) and partners

Data Analysis

Apply analytical tools, epidemiological methods and analyse data to assist in the production of intelligence that informs decision making, planning, implementation, performance monitoring and evaluation.

Use the appropriate software, analytical tools, epidemiological methods to provide comprehensive and evidence-based analysis after training has been provided

Data Protection

Assist to manage data and information in compliance with policy and protocol (including data protection, Caldicott Guardian, Freedom of Information and confidentiality principles).

Maintain governance, accountability, and responsibility when working with public health data and information.

Communication

Assist in the communication of information, statistical, analytical and epidemiological analysis using tables, charts, diagrams, maps and other presentational methods

Present information using good communication skills, especially when raw data must be compiled, processed, and analysed using the right and most efficient manner.

Training

Assist in the delivery of formal and informal training on the use of population health intelligence to public health, wider local authority

The population health intelligence and tools and training produced by Office for Health Improvement & Disparities (OHID) support local systems in understanding the health of their populations, and the drivers of ill health, health inequalities and health outcomes.

Prioritise workload, balancing ad hoc and planned tasks, maintaining a record of progress, and meeting tight deadlines

Work independently as well as a member of the Public Health Evidence and Intelligence (PHEI) team using a work log on ASANA with timelines, notes, all communications and log any potential reasons for not achieving agreed deadlines.
