Part-time Specialist Teaching Assistant / Communication Support Worker

Job summary

We are currently seeking a Teaching Assistant or Communication Support Worker with a calm, encouraging and positive manner to work with deaf children in the secondary Deaf and Hearing Resource Base at The Cherwell School in Oxford.

The role is varied and there are opportunities to support students with a variety of learning needs. There are good public transport links to the resource base and parking may also be available. The roles are permanent and term time only (39 weeks per year).In the school Deaf and Hearing Support Resource Bases, the maximum working time for a teaching assistant/CSW is 30 hours.Everyday youll be challenged in a new way, supported by your team, in an organisation that is free thinking, flexible, and helps people achieve their ambitions. Teams help give children and young people access to mainstream education in these settings; it is an important role!

You have a good level of basic education (e.g. Grade 4 or above in GCSE Maths and English or equivalent) or equivalent professional experience. Ideally,you will have experience of working with children and young people who are deaf.At this time, we are particularly looking forsupportworkers who have knowledge and skills in British Sign Language (BSL), ideally at Level 3 or above (or comparable fluency) and are able to use these tosupportdeaf children and young people.But please do consider applying if you have BSL Level 1 or 2 or are interested in developing your skills to Level 3.
