Job responsibilities

This role provides strategic and professional leadership for occupational therapy within East Riding of Yorkshire Council, focusing on quality assurance, professional development, and supervision. It champions high standards of practice, advises on complex cases and national policy, and drives cultural and practice change alongside the Principal Social Worker. The post holder leads initiatives that challenge stigma, promote safe and effective services, and support the development of occupational therapists across adult social care and health

Person Specification

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

• Knowledge of Safeguarding Adults and the interface with the occupational therapy discipline.
• A broad and in-depth understanding of legislative frameworks such as the Care Act 2014. Mental Capacity Act (MCA) 2005 and the Mental Health Act 1983.
• Understanding the Care Act 2014's prevention principles and related laws, such as the Housing Grant, Construction, and Regeneration Act 1996.
• Must be skilled in evidence-based practice and partnership working.
• Must be experienced in audits, reporting, and quality assurance
• Awareness of CQC requirements and audit frameworks.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills with senior stakeholders

Desirable

• Ability to advise Director of Adult Social Services (DASS) and wider council
• members on complex and potentially controversial queries, complaints and legal issues.

Qualifications

Essential

• Qualified and professionally registered with the Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) Occupational Therapist (England and Wales).
• Evidence of post-qualification training or CPD relevant to leadership or
• advanced practice.

Experience

Essential

• Extensive experience as an operational occupational therapist, who is able to provide a high quality service in a safe and effective manner which meets the HCPC registration requirements.
• Experience working with complex cases and advising on legal compliance.
• Experience of managing occupational therapy teams, coaching mentoring and of undertaking supervision of professional staff and other.
• Experience of strategic work, including policy development, project
• management and service development.

Desirable

• Experience of leading change.
• Experience of designing and undertaking in-depth quality assurance
• frameworks to inform workforce planning and overall staff development.
• Experience and knowledge of budget management.
• Experience and knowledge of contract monitoring.
