Specialist Safeguarding Childrens Nurse

Job summary

The Safeguarding Children Team within Children Health Provision (CHP) is a small nurturing team which predominantly supports the health visiting and school nursing team with matters of a safeguarding children nature.

This role is a blended working role between home working and being office based.

The post is a secondment initially of 12 months (1 year).

Main duties of the job

  • Assist the Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children in taking a professional lead within North East Lincolnshire community services on safeguarding children matters in association with Named Doctor.
  • Provide specialist advice, support, and training on Safeguarding Children to all CHP staff.
  • Lead the model of safeguarding supervision for the health visiting and school nursing service giving up to date advice and guidance and be able to identify trends and themes.
  • Promote skilled professional practice within community services relating to the safeguarding of children.
  • In the absence of the Named Nurse, ensure senior managers are kept appraised of local performance to safeguard children.
  • Works across agencies as an expert resource to other professionals
  • Support the Named and Designated Professionals in ensuring North East Lincolnshire fulfil their responsibilities for the safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children in accordance with Working Together, 2018 and the Children Acts of 1989 and 2004.
  • Support the Named Nurse to work alongside partners within the SCP arena, to deliver partnership requirements in respect of safeguarding children.
  • This post will initially be a secondment (band 7) for a year with a view to a substantive post following this time.

  • Coordinate and facilitate the supervision model (presently peer supervision) with the HV and SN service. To be able to identify any concerns regarding practice and escalate to the appropriate manager. To be able to identify themes within supervision and highlight these to the Named Nurse.

  • To be able to input and understand data on System One.

  • To be involved in protocol changes and keep up to date with new local or national guidance with respect to safeguarding children which will impact on HV and SN practice.

  • To be present and visible to practitioners and able to give 1:1 supervision when needed.

  • To be able to present at Forums/ workshops or training events as needed

  • To be involved and contribute in inter agency meetings and feedback on behalf of CHP.

  • To work closely with the CHP Team Managers.

  • To be able to interpret System One data regarding safeguarding and be involved with any changes to System One (safeguarding) and delivery to staff.

  • To be involved and support those practitioners who are involved in a Rapid Review/ Domestic Violence Homicide Review and Local Reviews

  • To be part of the MARAC process as needed within the wider health family.

  • To be part of the Escalation process when needed and guide and support the practitioner with complex and concerning safeguarding cases.
