Job summary
The Personalisation Occupational Therapy (OT) Service work with adults who have a physical and/or mental impairment.The OT service provides high quality interventions that prevent, reduce and delay the need for statutory care services under the Care Act 2014.
The service provides specialist interventions, strategies and/or equipment to promote independence and enable customers with long term conditions to manage daily tasks such as getting washed, dressed and transfers. A substantial number of referrals are for customers with a long-term condition to reduce risks and address complex needs associated with moving and handling support required.
OT staff complete detailed specialist assessments and risk assessments and work closely with customers to promote independence and reduce risks. Staff also work collaboratively with informal carers and domiciliary care agencies, equipment providers and other specialist teams e.g. Wheelchair service, Social workers, Housing, Reablement and Health to ensure customers receive a high quality service that meets each customers needs and individual outcomes. The service takes a proactive approach and reviews all customers with complex M & H needs at least once a year.
Main duties of the job
Key Requirements
- To be successful in this role, youll need to have a BSc Occupational Therapy qualification and have an understanding of the Occupational Therapy Core Skills, including in-depth knowledge of moving & handling.
- As youll be managing relationships with a variety of people, its important you have strong communication skills, can creatively solve problems and plan your own workload, often working under pressure.
- With the ability to work within a team as well as on your own initiative, youll have experience of dealing with and maintaining confidential information and an understanding of equality and diversity ensuring all people are treated fairly and with respect.
- In addition youll be able to travel around the county effectively and can demonstrate your commitment to lifelong learning and professional development.
- Occupational therapists working in the Personalisation Service need to have excellent core OT and report writing skills and in depth knowledge and skills in moving and handing of people.
- They need knowledge of the Care Act, Continuing Health Care and Safeguarding and have the ability to manage complex/difficult situations and be able to negotiate and communicate effectively with individuals and in groups. The ability to manage a caseload and work as part of team is essential.
