Wiltshire Environment Shaping a Greener, More Sustainable Future
We are looking for an inspiring and forward thinking Public Protection Manager to take the helm of our Environmental Protection team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a confident leader who is passionate about protecting our environment, shaping future policy, and driving high standards across a busy and diverse service.
You will use your extensive professional expertise to oversee the councils full range of environmental protection functions. You will lead with clarity and purpose, ensuring that both statutory and non statutory duties are delivered to the highest standard while championing innovation and continuous improvement.
We are looking for a highly experienced, professionally qualified environmental health specialist who can lead with confidence, communicate with impact and make sound decisions in fastmoving situations. If you're driven, strategic and ready to make your mark, we want to hear from you.
Main duties of the job
As our lead officer for environmental protection, you will advise the council on legislation, technical matters and best practice, bringing professional credibility and a solutions-focused approach. You will play a key role in developing forward looking policies, including how we use and maximise data from the Wiltshire Community Air Quality Network to support healthier communities.
You will work at the heart of our management team, reporting directly to the Head of Service, contributing to strategic decision making and deputising when required.
You will drive service improvements by planning, leading and evaluating projects that support our ambitions and ensure we meet our legal responsibilities.
Collaboration is central to this role. You will forge strong partnerships with the Environment Agency, DEFRA, the police, and local organisation, working collectively to protect Wiltshire's environment and residents.
You will be a motivating and supportive manager for our environmental health officers, public protection officers and technical specialists. From recruitment and staff development to performance management, you will ensure the team is engaged, equipped and empowered to deliver excellent outcomes.
Your leadership will extend to overseeing enforcement activity, offering guidance on complex cases and representing the council in court where necessary. Financial and operational management will be part of your remit, including budgets, expenditure approvals and statutory returns.
