Main duties of the job

Weare looking for a compassionate and experienced leader to manage our Mental Health Social Work service in Wiltshire.

Our service supports people of all ages who meet the threshold for secondary mental health care, including children, adults with learning disabilities, and older people. We work closely with health partners and other agencies to provide integrated, high-quality social care interventions that make a real difference.

As Team Manager, youwill lead a locality team, providing supervision, guidance, and operational oversight. Youwill ensure safe and effective responses to risk and crisis situations, manage budgets responsibly, and drive continuous improvement. Your leadership will help shape evidence-based practice andcreatea culture of collaboration and innovation.

Weare looking for someonewitha recognised Social Work qualification, registration with Social Work England, and substantial experience in mental health or adult care. Strong leadership skills, knowledge of relevant legislation, and the ability to work across agency boundaries are essential.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Direct management of a locality team including line management and clinical supervision e.g. provision of supervision, appraisals and expert advice.

Full management responsibility for the operational mental health social work service, including the Approved Mental Health Professional service within the locality area

Responsible for ensuring that on a day to day basis, risk and crisis situations are managed in a safe and effective way, minimising risk to our customers and the community. Ensure duty and back up rotas are in place and the lone working policy adhered to.

Manage the locality area care management budget for mental health, ensuring efficient and effective budget management e.g. make recommendation on decisions on funding approval for individual care packages.

Lead on ensuring joint working practices with AWP.

Ensure continuous service development and quality assurance and feedback, and adjust services accordingly.

Respond to customer feedback in a timely manner and ensure that lessons are learnt.

To be responsible for Health and Safety within the team, e.g. ensure that all activities carried out by the team follow corporate Health and Safety guidance and policies

Develop the management, monitoring and adjustments required to implement new ways of working including changing team systems and culture i.e. evidence based practice, risk management within a multi disciplinary team which is no longer integrated to ensure effective service delivery

In relation to workload management and allocation, guide staff in deciding what work should be undertaken by Council staff and what should be NHS responsibility to ensure an integrated service.

Be responsive and innovative in identifying solutions that meet both the aspirations of users and carers and Wiltshire Council agenda and framework through the commissioning of care packages.

Take responsibility for role of Investigating Manager within the Vulnerable Adults Procedure which involves leading an immediate response together with short and longer term interventions and co-ordination in crisis situations. Chair Vulnerable Adults conferences.

Develop and implement quality standards for the mental health social work service, ensuring that appropriate policies and procedures are in place.

Essential

  • A recognised and relevant professional qualification (Diploma in Social Work or equivalent) and be
  • registered with their professional body.
  • A recognised qualification (e.g. Post Graduate Certificate in Managing Health & Social Care; NVQ
  • Level 4/5
  • Significant experience of using relevant legislation and guidance in relation to working with, and the
  • safeguarding of vulnerable adults
  • Expert knowledge of the Care Act, Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and other relevant
  • legislation
  • Proven experience of leading and managing change
  • Significant understanding and awareness of mental health and emerging developments
