Canons House - Transforming Young Lives
We have an exciting opportunity for a Cook to join our Canons House Team in Devizes, ensuring that our Children and Young People receive quality nutrition and meals tailored to individuals dietary requirements.
Canons House is a lifeline for families of children with profound and multiple learning difficulties and complex health and care needs. Our team at Canons House support children and young people aged 5 to 17 to experience stability, familiarisation, a sense of belonging and positive physical, emotional and mental health.
As a Cook you will be responsible for the planning and preparation of varied, nutritious meals for the Children and Young People at Canons House for their lunch and evening meal services, including the baking of cakes and biscuits. You will provide the residents at Canons House with opportunities to engage in menu choices, basic food preparation, cooking and cleaning. Completing a daily kitchen log about fridge/freezer temperature control, food temperatures and tracking visitors to the kitchen and numbers cooked for will be required, alongside maintaining kitchen hygiene standards and reporting any concerns about safety or kitchen equipment faults. You will also plan menus with the Catering Officer, working with them to order and purchase food required, and be responsible for maintaining the stock of ingredients and rotation of stock to ensure products are used within expiry dates.

and Safety, Food Standards Agency, Ofsted)
- Complete daily log for kitchen, including temperature control of fridges and freezers, food
temperatures, visitors to kitchen, numbers cooked for.
- Take and store daily samples of prepared food, holding for 3 days in line with Health & Safety at
Work Act and kitchen inspections.
- Maintain hygiene standards in kitchen - work surfaces, kitchen equipment, top of oven,
microwave, fridge, dishwasher, heated trolley to ensure health and safety standards are
maintained.
- To work with the Catering Officer to plan menus, order and purchase food.
- Maintain stock of ingredients to support production of a nutritional meal. Ensure rotation of stock
to keep items within use by dates.
