Voice and Participation Service - Empowering Young Voices
Are you passionate about making a difference in young peoples lives? Do you have the creativity, energy and drive to lead a brand-new project supporting young carers in schools?
Main duties of the job
Were excited to offer two fantastic opportunities to join our Voice and Participation Service, where we champion the voices of children, young people, and families across Wiltshire.
As a Young Carers School Worker, youll work directly with schools to help them achieve the Young Carers in Schools Award. Youll lead assemblies, run peer support groups, and raise awareness of the challenges young carers face. Youll also support school staff to better understand and respond to the needs of young carers through training and guidance.
Were looking for self-motivated, enthusiastic individuals with a passion for supporting young people. Youll need experience working with children and young people, and a qualification in social work, youth work, or education (or equivalent experience). Youll be confident working independently, full of ideas, and ready to shape a new and exciting project.
This is a term-time only role, perfect for someone who thrives in a school-based environment and wants to make a lasting impact.

Job responsibilities
The purpose of the Young Carers Schools Worker role is to support schools to achieve the Young Carers in
Schools Award. The role works closely with schools, students, and relevant stakeholders to create an inclusive
and supportive environment for young carers. The role will mainly focus on the secondary school provision due
to the higher number of students in those settings.
Responsibilities:
Identification and Awareness:
Collaborate with school staff to raise awareness and identify young carers within their school
community.
Develop strategies to ensure a proactive approach to identifying and supporting young carers.
Training and Education:
Provide training sessions for school staff to enhance their understanding of young carers'
needs and challenges.
Facilitate workshops and assemblies to promote empathy, understanding, and peer support.
Individual Support Plans:
Work with internal and external young carers support providers and liaise with teachers to
implement necessary adjustments and accommodations to ensure a positive school
experience.
Involvement in School Policies:
Collaborate with school leadership to integrate young carer-friendly policies and practices into
their school's overall framework.
Advocate for the inclusion of young carer perspectives in decision-making processes.
Promoting Wellbeing:
Organise activities and events that promote the mental and emotional wellbeing of young
carers in schools.
Help schools establish a support network within schools, fostering a sense of community
among young carers.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
Regularly assess the impact of support initiatives on young carers and the school community.
Provide feedback to school leadership and make recommendations for continuous
improvement.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of young carers and the support provided.

- High level of relevant and practical experience acquired on the job.
- An advanced understanding of relevant procedures and working practices.
- Advanced knowledge of specialist function relevant to service area.
- Excellent ICT skills including use of Microsoft applications and specialist systems.
- Significant experience of working with clients and client groups with complex needs.
- Proven ability to carry out client risk assessments to identify eligibility for service provision
- and/or risk of harm.
- Proven ability to advise and guide clients to encourage development and to access services to
- which they are entitled.
- Ability to build trust and confidence with clients, client groups and colleagues.

- Awareness of relevant legislation and national guidelines around young carers and young adult carers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex and/or sensitive
- information in an understandable way, using a variety of methods across a range of audiences.
- Analytical skills with ability of interpreting information and situations and developing plans and
