Educational Psychology Service - Building Bright Futures

As an Assistant Psychologist, you will primarily work with children in the Early Years and the adults who support them. You will contribute to the Education, Health, and Care Needs Assessment process by collecting information through observation, assessment, and structured interviews, and you will participate in collaborative co-construction meetings alongside EPs, parents and carers, and other key adults. Educational psychologists will provide training, supervision, and support to do this work.

We are looking for enthusiastic and passionate candidates keen to develop their experience and skills through working within an Educational Psychology service and to progress to professional training in Educational Psychology. Successful candidates will hold an honours degree in psychology and will have experience of working with children and young people in educational settings. They will be skilled at building relationships with both children and adults and will have strong verbal and written communication skills.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:
Carry out observation and assessment work with Early Years and Foundation Stage children
going through the EHC needs assessment process. This work may also extend to young
people of a wider age range.
Co-ordinate and contribute to person-centred multidisciplinary meetings as part of the EHC
Needs Assessment process.
Draft Educational Psychology Advice for EHC Needs Assessment reports, ensuring that
needs identified during observation/assessment are represented, alongside information from
parents/carers, the setting, and the educational psychologist.
Facilitate settings and families to identify and agree outcomes and how they can be achieved.
Raise the quality and effectiveness of inclusive practice through modelling good practice,
working in partnership with others, and using person-centred approaches.
Promote the early identification of children and young people with SEND additional needs,
and early intervention.
Provide advice and support for settings/services and families where appropriate.
Manage own caseload - prioritise work and tasks appropriately and use effective time
management skills. Work within guidelines and using own discretion, under the supervision of
an educational psychologist.
Carry out all tasks and responsibilities in accordance with legal requirements across
education, health and social care, including identifying if a vulnerable child/young person may
be at risk
This role may broaden in response to service needs and priorities.
All of the above will be undertaken under the supervision of a qualified educational psychologist.
The
role will support the post holder to develop a range of skills and experience relevant to future training
as an educational psychologist.
