Job summary

Occupational Therapy Services at the London Borough of Bromley are seeking an enthusiastic and talented person to join our team. We have an exciting new role within our First Response Occupational Therapy Team for a role to support our extra care housing step down beds and hospital discharges into the community. There has never been a better time to join our stable, dynamic and supportive team, which consists of 40+ members of staff. We work together to share knowledge and aim for excellence for individuals accessing our services. The Occupational Therapy Team is located at our base at Bromley civic centre. We work in an agile way with a hybrid of office and home working, offering flexible opportunities for staff.

Main duties of the job

The role will involve assessing clients who have been discharged from hospital into the step down beds to ensure that they have the required equipment for discharge home and whilst in extra care housing. It will also involve assessing those clients who have been discharged home from hospital back into the community. Ensuring that they have the correct equipment at home and providing any minor adaptations they require. The Occupational Therapy assessments will include moving and handling assessments so competence in moving and handling is essential along with the ability to supervise less experienced staff.

MAIN PURPOSE:

1. To promote and maintain independence for vulnerable and disabled service users.

2. To assess the functional needs of service users and their carers in line with relevant legislation

and departmental policy.

3. Together with the service user, to plan and implement a range of therapeutic interventions.

4. To review and provide continued assessment and intervention as necessary.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1.To adopt a client centred approach to assess the needs of service users and their carers, in line with relevant legislation (such as The Care Act 2014) and departmental policies and procedures.

2.To provide a range of interventions to meet service users needs. These may include teaching new techniques, the provision of standard and specialist equipment (including manual handling equipment) and minor and major adaptations to the home.

3.Liaising with other internal departments and external organisations as necessary (eg Bromley Public Protective Division in relation to Disabled Facilities Grants, Housing Associations and other statutory, voluntary and independent services).

4.To review interventions provided in relation to meeting service user and carers needs and reassess and provide further intervention as necessary.

5.Supervise and support staff as agreed with Line Manager and in line with Council procedures (eg. Occupational Therapy Assistants).

6.To maintain professional standards of practice and record keeping in accordance with Council policy and professional standards.

7.To respond to and where possible to resolve complaints within the Council policy.

8.To maintain and further professional skills in the area of practice and to support others to do so (eg providing joint visits for colleagues and offering student placements when appropriate)

9.To contribute to service development as appropriate and to undertake any other duties commensurate with the level of the post, as required to ensure the efficient and effective running of the Department/Section.
