We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Public Health Midwife. The post holder will have significant experience in midwifery in hospital and in the community.

In Southend our Public Health Service Model is Integrated from Unborn -25 years service working with Health Visitors and School Nurses in the Community, Maternity partners and other important Stakeholders.

Main duties of the job
The postholder will have significant experience in midwifery in hospital and in the community.
The postholder will work as part of a team leading the Healthy Child Programme. The postholder will promote community engagement, early intervention, health promotion, advocacy, empowerment, social inclusion and reduction of health inequalities. Work collaboratively, to support and advise, work with key and wider partners, extending to social prescribers, Early Help/ Family Centres and Healthy Schools as appropriate.
The postholder will provide support to the wider public health team, hospitals midwifery team and the Infant feeding team. They will lead on the implementation of the UNICEF Baby Friendly Standards across the Southend Maternity service.
The postholder will act as an expert practitioner / role model, providing professional leadership and support to midwives to improve development of clinical skills, to develop and maintain clinical practice knowledge and skills regarding Public Health and Infant feeding.
They will help establish networks within the community to inform, influence and implement policies which affect the pre-birth population and onwards, with health and wellbeing outcomes.

Develop and contribute to multi-agency public heath approach when families who have complex psychosocial needs, particularly families at risk, need wider support pathways and integration.
To ensure that service has a clear plan for delivery for health protection, health improvement, the wider determinants of health, and premature mortality.
To ensure a midwifery presence and contribution to the pre-birth to 5 agenda by working actively with Early Years and Community Partners.
Clinical Engagement and Leadership
To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to identify the health needs of children and young people, and their families. To contribute to developing a strategy to address the identified health needs in accordance with the Healthy Child Programme.
Identify and develop the medical, midwifery and support staff understanding and delivery of the public health agendas by actively developing and improving the public health skills within the existing maternity framework.
Develop and monitor indicators linked with the Public Health Outcomes Framework and contribute to the developing Joint Strategic Needs Assessment.
To develop links with Family Centres and other agencies involved in promoting childrens wellbeing.
Professionalism
To work within their Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) Code and to understand the importance of professional accountability, responsibility and competence.
To maintain current knowledge in relation to practice and actively participate in mandatory training, additional learning, professional development, supervision, appraisal and reflection as appropriate.
