Southend-On-Sea's 0-19 Public Health service are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated practitioner with initiative and drive. Our 0-19 service delivers high quality public health nursing, that promotes and improves health inequalities to children, young people and their families in Southend-On-Sea. You will need to have excellent communication and organisational skills, be willing to facilitate and support change in service delivery, have the ability to work autonomously and as part of an integrated skill mix team.

Main duties of the job

You will work within a skill mixed School Nursing team, working closely with partners, such as our Health Visitors, School Nurses, Schools, GPs and Social Care, providing seamless care to the children, young people and families of Southend. You'll also have an important role in recognising and protecting vulnerable children as well as using innovative ways to communicate with the Southend population such as ChatHealth and the use of social media.

The successful candidate will work within the School Nursing service ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality services to a caseload of babies, children, young people and their families, using research-based evidence to inform practice with agreed professional standards. The post will require the nurse to travel between homes, schools, and community hubs within the Southend area.

Qualifications

Essential

  • First level registered nurse (Adult or Nurse Branch)
  • Current Full UK driving licence.

Experience

  • Evidence of utilising evidenced based practice and appraising standards, providing clinical direction and support for staff
  • Ability to apply clinical governance framework to clinical practice
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and understanding of professional responsibilities within the team
  • Demonstrate ability to facilitate others to develop service provision.
  • Ability to make sound clinical judgments and to work within a team and direct other team members to deliver high quality client care

Desirable

  • Demonstrable evidence of professional development
  • Demonstrable experience working with children and young people
  • Skills in managing own workload through effective use of prioritisation. An understanding of current political and local drivers for public health and school nursing.

  • Experience of working in the community.

Desirable

  • Experience with working with children or young people within the community setting.
