Are you looking for an opportunity to train to become a Health Visitor? To achieve this you will need to complete the Specialist Community Public Health (SCPHN) course.
If you are a registered Nurse (any pathway) or Midwife wanting to work in the community with families and are interested in early intervention and prevention to tack health inequalities, then we want to give you the opportunity to work within our Children, Young People and Family Public Health service. Work alongside and learn from our skill mix teams, including Health Visitors and School Nurses whilst you complete your Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN training) and get real hands on training and unlimited support.
Entrants must be either a qualified Nurse or Midwife and be prepared to study at level 7 (masters) for a yearlong, full time university programme.
Employment commences from January 2024.
We are offering a fixed term contract for one year to support your learning. Permanent employment following the SCPHN training is reliant on passing the course and passing a competitive interview.
Main duties of the job
Health Visitors are responsible for:
- The delivery of the Healthy Child Programme including assessment of health needs, development, early intervention and prevention
- Identification and assessment of health, growth and development of children aged 0-5
- Participation in effective partnership working with other agencies and taking a lead professional role where appropriate.
- Using evidence-based practice to develop and maintain a high quality service.
You will be supported by our Practice Education team, with close supervision and regular opportunities to discuss your ongoing learning. We are partnered with Anglia Ruskin University where you will undertake the academic elements of your learning.

Southend-on-Sea City Council is a unitary Local Authority
and the Children, Young People and Family Public Health service is based within the Public Health department. You will work within a large skill mix team and will benefit from learning from vastly experienced SCPHNS and specialist teams.

- Current driving license with access to a car for duration of training period
