East Sussex County Councils AMHP hub is fundamental in supporting people who are experiencing an acute mental health crisis. We work closely with Sussex Partnership Foundation Trust to provide safe practice to undertake Mental Health Act assessments.
The day service is a small AMHP hub that currently works Monday Friday to provide all areas of practice under the Mental Health Act.Within the service we have a Practice Manager, 5 AMHPs and 3 Resource Officers who will support the AMHPs.
We have made several developments to our service over the last 2 years, and we need someone with drive and experience to take the service to the next stage that will see the implementation of the new Mental Health Act as well as support our current redesign.
Main duties of the job
We need a person that embraces not only working closely with all AMHPs but able to have a strategic ability to support working with all stakeholders with our continual improvements.
You will also be responsible for hiring new staff and building a team that can achieve consistent high levels of service. While you are developing your team, we will help you to progress your own professional development through excellent training, mentoring and support from committed senior leaders.
We are looking for candidates who have:
- Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP)
- Experience of supervising Adult Social Care professionals or the potential to do so, for example development work in a health or social care setting
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Experience working collectively with colleagues, both internal and external.

Purpose
of Role:
The
Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) Service is a county-wide service.
The
AMHP Manager will provide strategic leadership and operational management to
all Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHP) within ESCC. They will lead
with all daily management requirements, ensuring the service meets the national
AMHP standards and adheres to current legislation, including the Care Act 2014,
Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Human Rights Act 1998.
Providing
guidance to all colleagues offering them oversight to the statutory function of
the AMHP and duties.
The
AMHP Manager is required to oversee the daily AMHP hub service and bespoke
AMHPs while undertaking the AMHP role, offering consultation on all aspects of
the AMHP function and Mental Health Act to support a safe and legal service and
providing expert and legal advice to AMHPs and other Partners when required.
Key tasks
1. Contribution
to the AMHP rota.
2. Provide
professional supervision to AMHPs.
3. Ability
to make decisive decisions to support the safety of others and service
delivery.
4. Proficiency
in analysing data to support the growth and development of the service.
5. Lead
in recruitment for AMHPs within the AMHP Service.
6. Undertake
appraisals Golden thread conversations to support the career growth of the
AMHPs.
7. Management
of the AMHP register and lead in sufficiency planning for AMHPs.
8. Audit
AMHP reports to ensure quality and governance around AMHP standards.
9. Approve
expense claims.
10. Ensure
there is a robust working alone safety system in place.
11. Lead
with complaints under the ESCC complaints procedures.
12. Attendance
at all relevant panels e.g. AMHP warranting.
13. Assist
as required in implementing the Departments Emergency Plan in an event of a
major incident.
