Job summary
We are currently recruiting 2 x Trainee Cognitive Behavioural Therapist to join our team and undertake the Postgraduate Diploma in CBT at the University of Reading in starting February 2025.The appointed candidate will work as part of Nottingham City Mental Health Support Teams (MHST).The training involves teaching blocks as well as weekly teaching and supervision days at the University of Reading. Applicants must be willing to travel to Reading.
The course you will be completing at the University of Reading as part of this role is a Level 2 accredited course with BABCP. This means that upon completion trainees will meet criteria to apply for provisional accreditation as a CBT therapist with the BABCP.
To apply, you must meet the criteria for CBT training and also have a BABCP-recognised professional background in mental health or related areas. This means having a recognised Core Profession.
Main duties of the job
- Relevant professional qualification; e.g. social work, nursing or a core qualification as defined in BABCP.
- NB if core profession requirements not met with BABCP a Key Skills and Attitudes Portfolio will need to be completed
- Direct experience as practitioner in childcare setting, ideally within an education setting.
- Knowledge and existing skills regarding a range of therapeutic interventions and their application to practice for a wide range of mental health presentations. Including a sound knowledge of theory and its application to evidence based practice.
- Good communication skills and the ability to relate to children, young people, families and professionals.

- To deliver good outcomes for children through taking referrals, completing assessments regarding young peoples emotional and mental health needs and creating an effective plan for intervention.
- To ensure delivery of appropriate services to children and their families, according to their assessed needs. This will include direct interventions based on a range of evidence based therapeutic interventions. To provide individual and group interventions with young people their families and communities. Making decisions and managing risk appropriately regarding effective care planning and pathways.
- To offer consultation and training and joint working regarding childrens and young peoples emotional and mental health needs. Enhancing skills and knowledge within the partner agencies and across the community. To maintain professional case records, including inputting onto the Departments information systems and accessing information from relevant registers. Producing reports to a high standard.
Partnerships and networking.
- To contribute to the creation and maintenance of good working relationships at all levels with colleagues in partner agencies, local community groups and other City Council Departments, representing the team at inter-agency meetings as appropriate.
- To work with effectively with Targetted/ Community (previously Specialist) CAMHS in line with clinical governance and departmental policies. Act as an effective liaison ensuring clear communication between and within childrens services.
- To work flexibly as a team member in a multi agency team to develop the quality of our services, to improve the mental health and emotional wellbeing of the children and young people in the locality. Being committed to develop and expand skills and therapeutic knowledge to work with a wide range of mental health needs.
Accountability.
- To manage own workload effectively, maintaining appropriate records and preparing and submitting reports as required.
- To participate in individual supervision with their mental health specialist and their line manager, as well as undertaking appropriate training and developmental opportunities and attending team meetings as required.

- To provide the highest standards of safeguarding to children young people/vulnerable adults who access our services, adhering to NCC's safeguarding polices and procedures.
