Main duties of the job

We are currently recruiting Trainee Cognitive Behavioural Therapists to join our team and undertake the Postgraduate Diploma in CBT course at the University of Reading in early 2024.The clinical work involves being part of a CAMHS team with a caseload of CBT training cases. Workplace supervision will be provided weekly.The training involves teaching blocks as well as weekly teaching and supervision days at the University of Reading. Applicants must be willing to travel to Reading.

The course you will be completing at the University of Reading as part of this role is a Level 2accredited course with BABCP. This means that upon completion trainees will meet criteria to applyfor provisional accreditation as a CBT therapist with the BABCP.

To apply, you must meet the criteria for CBT trainingand alsohave a BABCP-recognisedprofessional background in mental health or related areas. This means having a recognised CoreProfession. If you do not have a Core Profession, you must complete a portfolio of evidence to show that youhave equivalent training and experience. Job responsibilities

Child and family work

1.To deliver good outcomes for children through taking referrals, completing assessments regarding young peoples emotional and mental health needs and creating an effective plan for intervention.

2.To ensure delivery of appropriate services to children and their families, according to their assessed needs. This will include direct interventions based on a range of evidence based therapeutic interventions. To provide individual and group interventions with young people their families and communities. Making decisions and managing risk appropriately regarding effective care planning and pathways.

3.To offer consultation and training and joint working regarding childrens and young peoples emotional and mental health needs. Enhancing skills and knowledge within the partner agencies and across the community. To maintain professional case records, including inputting onto the Departments information systems and accessing information from relevant registers. Producing reports to a high standard.

Partnerships and networking.

4.To contribute to the creation and maintenance of good working relationships at all levels with colleagues in partner agencies, local community groups and other City Council Departments, representing the team at inter-agency meetings as appropriate.

5.To work with effectively with Community (previously Specialist) CAMHS in line with clinical governance and departmental policies. Act as an effective liaison ensuring clear communication between and within childrens services.

6.To work flexibly as a team member in a multi agency team to develop the quality of our services, to improve the mental health and emotional wellbeing of the children and young people in the locality. Working within the CAPA model and being committed to develop and expand skills and therapeutic knowledge to work with a wide range of mental health needs.

Accountability.

7.To manage own workload effectively, maintaining appropriate records and preparing and submitting reports as required.

8.To participate in individual supervision with their mental health specialist and their line manager, as well as undertaking appropriate training and developmental opportunities and attending team meetings as required.

9.To demonstrate commitment and sensitivity to ensuring equality of opportunity in service delivery.

10. To provide the highest standards of safeguarding to children young people/vulnerable adults who access our services, adhering to NCC's safeguarding polices and procedures.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Relevant professional qualification, Social work, nursing or teaching, Dipsw, CSS, CQSW, QTS, RMN, NVQ 4 or above in a relevant field or core profession as defined in BABCP (http://babcp.com/Accreditation/Core-Profession.aspx plus relevant honours degree graded at 2.2 or above.)
  • NB if core profession requirements not met with BABCP a Key Skills and Attitudes Portfolio will need to be completed
  • Direct experience as practitioner in childcare setting. Minimum 2 years experience.

Experience

Essential

  • Knowledge of relevant childcare legislation and Government Guidance. Childrens Act, NSF etc.
  • Qualification in therapeutic approaches with children, young people and families (e.g. CBT, Systemic, solution focused)
  • Ability to provide effective care pathways. Well-established case management skills.
  • Knowledge and awareness regarding mental health problems and their impact on young people and their families.
  • Knowledge and existing skills regarding a range of therapeutic interventions and their application to practice for a wide range of mental health presentations. Including a sound knowledge of theory and its application to evidence based practice.
  • Ability to use Windows-based information technology.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to relate to children, young people, families and professionals.
  • Ability to write appropriate reports, case records and to manage a case load effectively.
  • Ability to analyse information and identify a childs mental health needs and how they might be met using evidence based practice
  • Ability to provide effective interventions, experience of facilitating group work, training and consultation
  • Understanding of the reasons why successful partnership working is critical to good outcomes for children. Ability to work within a multi disciplinary team and with partners to achieve positive outcomes for families.
