Do you want to work in Northumberland supporting Adults with disabilities to improve their health and wellbeing through high quality, person-centred care?
Northumberland County Council Adult Social Care is seeking an experienced therapist or nurse with advanced expertise in moving and handling and postural carewithin community settings. The post holder will deliver high level specialist assessment, intervention, and training to ensure safe, effective practice across services.
About the Role
This is a countywide post supporting highly skilled Occupational Therapy staff working with adults in a range of community settings, including private homes, care homes, and Independent Supported Living. Clients may present with needs related to ageing, physical disability, mental health, or learning disability.
The role includes responsibility for staff training and development in moving and handling and postural care beyond statutory requirements.
Office base will be determinedon appointment.
The post holder will need to meet the travel requirements of the post to cover the geographical area of Northumberland, therefore It is an essential requirement of the role that the post holder has a valid driving licence and is either a car owner or able to use a car for work purposes.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist moving and handling and postural care support to NCC therapy services.
- Undertake complex assessments in all environments where clients spend time, identifying needs and developing evidence based interventions in line with current legislation.
- Act as a specialist resource for therapy staff and multidisciplinary teams.
- Develop, deliver, and lead competency based specialist training programmes.
- Observe, assess, and support staff competency both in training environments and in community settings.
Essential Requirements
- Degree level qualification (or equivalent) in Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, or Nursing.
- Current professional registration (HCPC, RCN, NMC, or equivalent).
- Evidence of teaching or presentation experience.
- Accredited moving and handling training.
- Experience supervising staff and supporting performance development.
- Extensive experience and specialist knowledge in moving and handling and postural care, including equipment, techniques, risk assessment, and relevant legislation.
Additional Information
- Full time, permanent position
- Salary: Band 8 £37,336 to £41,418
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work are essential due to countywide travel
